Calgary Lawn Bowling Club is a vibrant non-profit and social club, Established in 1923, the club promotes lawn bowling to all ages and abilities in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment, located in the southwest community of Spruce Cliff, the world-class lawn bowling facility features two of the best greens in all of Canada.

Calgary Lawn Bowling Club is the home of many top players from the Provincial and Canada’s National Team. 

 New Members & Guests Always Welcome

Our season is expected to start May 20 and run through to the end of September depending on weather.

The annual fees for 2023 will be $125.00 for new bowlers and $140.00 for returning members.

Your membership allows you to participate in all club leagues and events. Saturday Jitneys have a $2.00 fee that goes into the prize pool, and some special events have a nominal fee to cover food costs and prize money.

All members have access to the club’s inventory of Bowls, so no need to purchase bowls if you do not already own a set.

Lessons are provided for new bowlers to get everyone comfortable with basic play andtechnique. An introductory lesson is $25.00 which is deducted from your membership fee if you decide to join. We have drop in sessions

scheduled for introductory lessons on May 21, 27, and 28, at 6:30 PM, or you can show up on Monday evenings from June 3.

Low  Membership Fee

  •  All you need are flat-soled shoes.
  • Enjoy access to the greens and play at your convenience. Participate in the Club’s leagues throughout the season.
  • Compete in any of the club’s tournaments held during the season.
  • Join open tournaments hosted by other clubs, including provincial qualifiers leading to national championships.
  • Participate in various social events organized by the club. Benefit from discounted rentals for the greens or clubhouse.

What is Lawn Bowling?

The goal of bowls is to skillfully roll your bowls as close to the target as possible. With the dynamic interplay of setting up your scoring strategy and defending your points, the game of bowls offers a continuously evolving challenge.

Club Games/Leagues

Social Bowlers League

Monday Evening 6:30 PM

Join us for Social & New Bowler Play on the greens in this flexible drop-in format! Feel free to attend as many weeks as you like. Teams are randomly drawn each evening, and we spice things up with a variety of formats. The main emphasis is on creating a social and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone to have a great time on the greens!

Two – Four- Two  League

Wednesday Evening 6:30 PM

Season pre-registration is mandatory. A schedule has been devised to ensure that each division’s participants have the opportunity to compete against one another twice. The game format involves one bowler (the lead and skips) handling the bowls, while the other player takes charge of the second and third bowls during the first end. The roles then switch for subsequent ends (e.g., the second end and the third end). Typically, our games consist of 12 or 14 ends. Ideally there will be a social and competitive division.

Ultimate Bowls League

Tuesday Morning 9:30 AM

This is a weekly drop-in league where you can participate on any week that fits your schedule. Teams are randomly selected each week, making it an inclusive and flexible format. Players of all skill levels are encouraged to join and enjoy the friendly competition.

Cut Throat  League

Thursday Evening 6:30 PM

 In this weekly drop-in league, participants engage in individual play against two opponents each week. Scorecards will be distributed at the clubhouse, providing information about the opponents and the assigned green for the game.

Pride Lawn Bowling League

Tuesday Evening 6:30 PM

This is a weekly drop-in league. All players are welcome to play and focus is on social play.

Saturday & Holiday Monday Jitneys

Saturday & Holiday Monday 12:30 PM

 

Each week players must enter their name onto the table by 12:30pm and teams are drawn from the players who are present.  Two games of 10 ends are played with a break for goodies in the middle.  A $2 is collected each week and goes towards prize money that day and helps cover the kitchen costs. Players of all levels are welcomed.

Trophy Days

Only CLBC Members are able to play in trophies. Players are grouped into teams. The event consists of three games, and the teams remain intact throughout all three matches. Players bring their own lunch and an afternoon treat is provided.  participants need to submit their names by 10:15 am.
